Covenant of the
Senoir Ministers of Large UU COngregations
Santa Barbara, California
February 26th, 2000 - March 2nd, 2000


As a member of the Senior Ministers of Large Congregations, I commit myself to promote the spiritual and institutional health and numerical growth of the congregation I serve, and of our movement as a whole. I pledge myself to support and encourage my colleagues, and the growth of the congregations they serve. For the health of our movement, I will seek and support a mutually affirmative connection with the UUA and its staff and leadeship.ake to fulfill the following expectations, and to participate in sharing information, experiences, ideas and stgories in various formats.

Expectations:
    • Attend meetings of SMOLUUC regularly
    • Contribute time and money for SMOLUUC to function
    • Read SMOLUUC newsletter
    • Answer and return survey(s) promptly
    • Participate in the process of selecting the Steering Committee and other start-up work:
    • Respond to drafts of the vision statement (if no response, approval is given)
    • Support/live with the vision statement as completed
    • Communicate the work of the Advocacy Group for Associate, DRE, MRE (etc., sign on)

    Optional expectations:

    • Write for SMOLUUC newsletter
    • Write for SMOLUUC chat line
    • Contribute sermon tapes
    • Make calls to meeting non-participants
    • Promote books by SMOLUUC members
    • Organize/analyze survey data
    • Research and report areas of special interest
    • Serve as liaison with UUA administration
    • Visit SMOLUUC web site
    • Contribute to reading list, resource list, library
    • Send newsletter tocolleagues who request it
    • Help in orientation of new SMOLUUC members
    • Participate in peer reviews/mutual visitation
    • Serve on Steering Committee
    • Others that may occur

    This covenant was signed by members of SMOLUUC present in the order of their longevity in the group. SInce the 2000 meeting, new members of SMOLUUC have signed on to the covenant as part of a recovenanting ceremony during the winter retreat of SMOLUUC at La Casa de Maria.
